Call for Applications – Black Sea Summer University 2025

Application is now open for the (DAAD) German Academic Exchange Service funded Black Sea Summer University – Shifting Tides: Exploring Conflict Dynamics in the Black Sea Region – organized by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) in partnership with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Institute of Politics (GIP).

Black Sea Summer University offers a high-profile study course for students enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in political science, international relations, and other relevant fields. The course is designed for both Georgian and international students.

The program includes lectures and interactive seminars on the conflict dynamics in the Black Sea region. Black Sea Summer University provides an opportunity for students to attend lectures conducted by renowned experts on Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region from a number of universities. Students will have the chance to learn more about the challenges that the shifting international context poses for the region.

Focus Areas:

  • Democratization and Europeanization: How European values and democratic processes are shaping Georgia and other Black Sea region countries.
  • Transformative Politics: Examining the impacts of populism, corruption and the erosion of the rule of law on European integration and cooperation.
  • Security Policy: Addressing hybrid warfare, energy security, and the EU’s strategic challenges in the Black Sea region.
  • Civil Society Engagement: Highlighting the role of civil society for European security and democratization.

Eligibility:

Students are currently enrolled in Bachelor’s (in their third or fourth-year university studies) and Master’s degree programs in Political Science, International Relations, and other relevant fields.
