On March 23, the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), in cooperation with The Georgian Institute of Politics (GIP), held DGAP’s Morning Briefing on Geopolitical Challenges -“Looking West, Moving East: Georgia’s European Perspectives.”
Every Thursday morning at 8:30, DGAP’s Research Institute brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in geopolitics. This week’s session looked at the political situation in Georgia, including its prospects for EU membership. Despite overwhelming popular support for EU accession, the government has backpedaled on its pro-European stance and introduced a controversial bill on “agents of foreign influence” that threatens to curtail civil society. DGAP’s Research Institute assessed the implications of the recent mass protests in response to this move and the German and European responses.
