General Assembly of the Interparty Council 2025

On February 26, the Georgian Institute of Politics organized the General Assembly of the Interparty Council, “Strengthening Sustainable Political Culture Among Georgian Political Parties.” The event showcased Georgia’s political crisis, the challenges faced by women politicians, and the perspectives of young politicians.

The event opened with remarks from Prof. Kornely Kakachia, Director of the Georgian Institute of Politics; Teona Chalidze, Chairwoman of the Women Interparty Council, and Goga Poladashvili, Chairman of the Youth Interparty Council.

The first panel, “Political Crisis in Georgia: Challenges of Women Politicians Before and After Elections,” was moderated by Teona Kupunia, a women’s political engagement expert. It discussed women politicians’ challenges before and after elections, from changes like removing gender quotas to the state of internal party democracy and strategies for fostering meaningful grassroots engagement. Panelists also examined the long-term development needs of political parties and what they need to grow and adapt for the future.

The second panel, “Political Crisis in Georgia: Perspectives of Young Politicians,” was moderated by Dr. Shota Kakabadze, a Policy Analyst at the Georgian Institute of Politics. During this panel, young politicians examined strategies for navigating Georgia’s ongoing political crisis, the prospects for a united front among parties, and the search for a common political gravitational center. Speakers reflected on the role of political parties in crisis resolution, their communication with voters, and how they articulated goals and strategies. The discussion also explored party relations with activists, their key differences, and ways to foster greater collaboration in shaping Georgia’s political future.

The panels were followed by a closed session of the Interparty Council with the participation of the Committees of Women and Young Politicians.

The General Assembly of the Interparty Council was organized with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia as part of the project “Strengthening Sustainable Political Culture Among Georgian Political Parties.”
